Frozen Vanilla Beans - are these ruined?

I recently took over the culinary end of a Sonoma winery, and found that my predecessor in the kitchen had frozen a bag of 12 Bourbon Vanilla Beans (they've been in there at least 6 months). I about had heart failure when I saw that bag sitting there.

I've read that once frozen, the flavor has certainly been compromised, but I'm wondering if I can minimize that by removing them from the freezer now, instead of leaving them frozen. And if I do take them out, is it best to refrigerate them, or put them in cool dry storage?
