Hi, I've been reading through these discussion threads, but I'm not seeing exactly what I'm looking for--please help!
My wife and I will spend two nights in New Orleans at the end of this month and we're looking to have a nice brunch on a Saturday (ruling out many well-reviewed Sunday-only "jazz" brunches). We're currently booked for Brennan's, but I'm seeing a lot of complaints for slow service on Yelp and am having second thoughts. I've been considering Muriel's, Antoine's, and Tableau as well, and am open to other suggestions that will give us an ideal combination of food, service, and ambience. We like the idea of visiting the classic fine dining restaurants in the French Quarter, but are also wary of expensive, famous places that lean a bit too hard on tourists and old reputations. Also, five years can be a long time in restaurant-years, so what was great in 2013 might not be in 2018--if you have any updates from recent trips, I'd be interested to read your impressions.
I've never been to New Orleans as an adult, so I don't have any first-hand knowledge of this stuff. Strong opinions are encouraged!
We're mostly sticking to the French Quarter and the Frenchmen Street area because of our limited time.
I should also mention that we're looking for NOLA-centric cuisine; we have a lot of good Southern/New American places where we live in Atlanta, so we want to try things we can't get at home.
Our meal schedule so far is:
Friday lunch: Commander's palace
Friday dinner: something casual in the French Quarter, maybe Central Grocery?
Saturday brunch: help!
Saturday dinner: Cafe Amelie
Only Commander's Palace is set in stone, so any recommendations are welcome.
