The Fountain -- salad in the FiDi

Ruth Lafler | Apr 21, 2006 07:01 PM

I wandered up Sutter (after a stop at the Sutter and Market See's for half-price Easter treats) looking for something appealing for lunch. I walked by The Fountain without paying much attention -- it looked like a smoothie place.

Not finding anything exciting farther up Sutter I walked back and, passing by, gave it another glance. Hmmm ... salad bar ... *cheap* salad bar. How bad could it be for $4.99/lb? The answer: not bad at all. The food was fresh and in good condition. The selection wasn't huge, but it was varied enough that I found plenty of things worth trying. I thought it was slightly better than Portico, and even less expensive.

After I'd already assembled a salad, I noticed that the cooked special of the day was chicken in Peruvian-style spices. I eyed the people behind the counter -- they certainly could have been Peruvian. So I'm going to go back and check for more Peruvian specials.

Anyone have any comments or suggestions to add?
