Fort Mason's Officer's Club

Has anyone been there?

In the food section of last Wednesday's Chronicle, there was an ad. First of all, it was listed under the heading "Continental", which is like a red flag for "not good".

Yet it sounded intriguing. They promised Sunday brunch, views of Alcatraz and sailboats on the bay. Ok, ok, view = bad. And YET I'm intrigued.

They promised Sunday brunch, but when I drove by on Sunday, it was closed up. I didn't see how the promised view could be accomplished.

Even more ominous, it's not listed on citysearch which has everything.

And YET, they promise fresh seafood, tender beef and succulent chicken and that my view and food will be unique from anywhere in the world.

It's located in Building 1 in Fort Mason off at the Bay / Franklin entrance. When I called 441-7700, a message says dinner is 6-9 on Wed-Thurs and 5-9 on Fri - Sat. No mention of brunch.

Is this new? Anyone been there. Could there be good food with a view ... and free parking?
