We were going to go to the Kemah boardwalk for lunch, even though we knew all the restaurants on the boardwalk are owned by Tillman Frititta and co, and serve frozen seafood, we happened to run into an old friend who lives down there,(we lived down there 20 years ago) he told us, "forget the boardwalk, I got a better place for you!"
He sent us to San Leon, which is about 15 minutes south of Kemah, one of the last of the old time shrimping villages!
The restaurant is called "Top Water Grill" and is located @ 815 Avenue O San Leon Texas 77539 Phone is 281-339-1232
Just ask anyone where "April Fools Point" is.
They have a website listed on their menu, but it appeared to be down, but here's the url
The place started out in life as a bait camp, and has swelled to be a bar, then a bar/ restaurant, now a bar, restaurant outdoor dining patio, right on the water!
The food, is excellent, and you get plenty of it!
I had the coconut shrimp, and my hubby had the anglers seafood platter.
All the platters come with fries, they are frozen, but it doesn't matter, you won't eat them anyway, you'll be too busy chowing down on the real food! You also get homemade coleslaw with shrimp in it, and hush puppies!
My platter had 10 huge shrimp, and they were done to perfection!
Hubby's platter had shrimp, oysters, crab balls & fish!
He had trouble getting the last few bites down!
We also had appetizers, which was a mistake, because we had no room for dessert!
Jalepenos stuffed with crab, and shrimp coctail were the appetizers!
Service is excellent, friendly and effficient, and the place is clean!
Our waitress was Tammie.
We will go back, and are bringing friends, it is a 2 1/2 hour drive for us, so you KNOW the food is good!
Hope you all check it out!
