The tips for Kent and Auburn were tremendously helpful on my visit there over spring break. I printed out both of your posts and we kept them in the car.
We loved the Duck Inn in Kent (German), and went twice. We learned they close at 3:00 on weekday evenings. On Saturday they close for the afternoon. We split the two sampler plates. Both times. It was better on Saturday night than Friday, but still delicious then, too. The best rouladen ever.
We enjoyed Spiros, nice pita & nice vinagrette as you said, enjoyed the spanikopita. Found the bakery and the Sushi place and I hope they are still there next time I'm in town.
Sunprint in Auburn is closed Mondays, as I found when I missed the Sounder that morning. They sent me to the Rainbow, which was not a good breakfast at all (spongy pancakes, cold bacon) but after seeing the pie case I went back later for butterscotch pecan pie and coffee and that was great.
I made it to the Sunprint later in the week and WOW, what a great breakfast. I could have stayed there all day just grazing through their breads.
In Auburn I had pad thai at Koong Thong. Just after I ordered I read an idiotic newspaper review tacked to the wall. The writer thought the #3 pad thai (which I had just ordered)diabolically hot. (said the cook gave a "diabolical laugh" when he ordered it) It wasn't, just nice & regularly hot.
I'll have to save the Great Wall for next time.
In Seattle, The Crumpet Shop has the most delicious turkey sandwich I've ever paid money for, and it wouldn't have occured to me to order it without the comments on this board. THANKS. I had a big breakfast there (groats and a crumpet and tea) and when I returned that afternoon for a sandwich to take home, they remembered me from the morning and gave me my free tea refill (I didn't ask). I thought that was very nice.
Otherwise, we had what was apparently an off night at Anthony's in Everett (Sunday). Several things were slightly bitter. ick. And the halibut was dry. The manager did a lovely job of handling a scary and loudly obnoxious customer however.
And a good lunch at Roasters in Totem Lake. Potatoless clam chowder and a salad with smoked salmon on top.
So, thanks again.
