A food writer looking for advice: 5 nights in Melbourne (next week)

Hi everyone,

It's been a long while since I've been on Chowhound, and I wanted to put in a special request for some good meal suggestions while my spouse and I are in Melbourne next week (the week of 13 Jan.).

We'll have all three meals every day open, and we're both adventurous eaters.

I'm the restaurant critic for a newspaper syndicate in Maine, in the United States, and whilst I don't plan to write about any of my meals, I'll probably be sharing much of what I eat in some kind of write-up, somewhere.

I'm a fan of most cuisines. I love spice, love Asian foods (especially Vietnamese, Japanese, and Malaysian), don't mind a hole-in-the-wall restaurant with incredible food but no atmosphere, and would also like to visit a few nice-ish sit-down restaurants (anything from good neighborhood spots to more upscale) during the week. I don't care about Michelin stars and am not a 'collector' of famous restaurants where I've eaten. For me, good food is the primary driver.

I'll be staying in North Melbourne (Parkville), but am absolutely willing to travel.

Bonus if you've got some fun (not loud) cocktail bars with interesting craft cocktail programmes to share.

Thanks so much,

Andrew Ross (formerly Nosher)
