Along with a slight venue upgrade, the Food and Wine Expo took a major leap forward this year with the inclusion of some great chow. While previous years featured a bunch of chains slinging steam tray garbage, this year they somehow managed to attract some great vendors. A few food trucks were representing (Both The Bitches and The Dudes attended). Hank Daddy's served some fun "pulled pork parfaits", Brasaii had some braised beef rib sammichs, Liko's had some Hawaiian BBQ. And that's just off the top of my head.
The wine side of the show turned out well this year as well. There were a lot more importers than last year, with Tre Amici there in force as usual, but also La Cantina, K&S, and others serving some great wines that would be hard on the wallet by the bottle, but totally affordable for a taste.
The usual gripes still apply. It's expensive, and the crowd is unbearable by about 4PM. My brother did a tutored tasting (he's not the sharpest tool in the shed) and it sounded horrible.
Anyways, those on the fence for next year may want to give the exhibitor list a look, as it's grown to be more than the usual.
