I was in the Peace Corps in Togo and have been combing NYC for non-Senegalese West African food. I love "little Africa" up around 116th, but that area is largely Senegalese and the cuisine is therefore rice-based. The food I'm nostalgic for is based on cornmeal mush (la pate, like Kenyan ugali) and sauces of palm oil, green leaves, hot peppers, and onions... I never get up to the Bronx, so I'm hoping for suggestions in the Brooklyn/Manhattan area. Thanks, and mangeons!
