Food thermometer question - help please!

I took a roast out of the freezer and placed it in the fridge to thaw. To ensure that it was fully thawed I placed my oven meat thermometer in it overnight (fridge temperatures are within its range). When I woke this morning my thermometer is reading 45 Fahrenheit which is within the danger zone. However, I have a fridge thermometer and that is reading 38 Fahrenheit in the same part of the fridge. Somebody please explain as I am pulling my hair out over whether my roast is still edible.
