food obsessed honeymoon

So my husband and I are honeymooning in new york the week before christmas. We met at culinary school, I work at a winery in the willamette valley, live in Portland. We have great asian/local produce/ organic/ seafood places here and know good food. Our whole purpose for the honeymoon is to go to museums and eat as much excellent food as possible. We're staying at the Waldof Astoria which is a lot more fancy pants than we usually are, but it was a gift, if that helps with locations.
Basically we want one night of fancy, gourmet, new york dining, preferably under the $250 range for both. I've heard good things about Babbo, Union Square Cafe, Hearth. All true?
Good wine lists/wine bars?
Other ethnic foods/restaurants/markets that we shouldn't miss? Portland is a great town but pretty white so we don't have a lot outside of thai/japanese and one good ethiopian place. We're both pretty unfamiliar with most eastern European foods.
Anything, new, exciting, slightly esoteric even weird worth trying?
Is Artisanal worth the visit?

If you only had 10 meals to eat in manhattan where would they be?
