Flower Street Fair in San Francisco Chinatown

Yimster | Jan 9, 200409:58 AM     7

Every year just prior to Lunar New Year the Chinese have a Street Fair on Grant Avenue to buy flowers just prior to have on hand for New Years. This fair will take place next weekend. They have a lot of street vendor that sell a lot of interesting stuff for New Years (and lots junks as my sons say too). But if you are interested in Asian things if not a bad time to check it out. I will post more information after I get back from the city today. My last shopping trip before New Year's and my chance to order my chicken and Roast Pig for the January 22 which is New Year's Day.
I know about this fair because my last Auntie (left in the old days we had a lot more wonderful things to eat that we only dream about today) call last night and told me to drop by on the weekend to see her.
It sometimes makes me sad that she is the only one left who make the New Year Cakes for all of us. The turnip cake and sweet New Year Cake she has been working for weeks getting all the ingredients to make these wonderful cakes. We all tell her not to make them but because it is a lot of work. But I love her answer "Who is the Auntie and little kids should be seen and not heard". Since she has to steam each one. All us kids (we are petty old kids) has a time to show up and pick up our fresh cakes. I need to get the recipes before they are losted forever.
