Flor de Mayo--yum!

Emily Jean | May 20, 2005 11:58 AM

Just wanted to say thanks for all the recommendations I've seen on these boards for Flor de Mayo on the UWS. I went to the Amsterdam location last night with a friend and we had a great time.

I got the adobo pork special, which was succulent and richly flavored. She got the chicken, which was, as promised, out of this world (and I'm not even a big fan of chicken). The sides were great too, including a delicately flavored white bean soup/sauce, fried taro covered in garlic, and picked red onions. We shared the ceviche, which was only OK--nice flavor, but a little tough and not many fish pieces underneath lots of red onion. BUT, all this and 2 tasty beers came to $40, tax and tip included. What a deal!

Atmosphere was definitely nil, and none of the waiters that came to our table spoke any english, but service was still prompt and friendly.

I'll definitely come back, though it's always hard to pass up the bacon cheeseburger at Big Nick's when I'm in the area. yum...
