Flat Iron Grill - R.I.P. (and other tidbits)

Apparently, the Flat Iron Grill at 38th Street and Indian School in East Phoenix has served its last meal.

According to the signs in the windows and on the door, the Flat Iron could not pay its bills and the owner of the property locked them out and let the world know it. Ouch.

I had a suspicion something was up this past Saturday when I drove by at 8 PM and the lot was vacant and the lights were off. I saw a notice in the window, but being late for an engagement, I was unable to stop. I did so today and the place is dark, somewhat emptied, and waiting for another tenant.

I think that location is simply bad luck.

Speaking of which, the odd building at 41st Street and Indian School has a new tenant. The place used to be Uncle Chen's (before that it was Coconut Joe's), but that didn't last long and now is Nacho's Taco Shop. Oddly, as I was driving by there at 8 PM last Saturday as well, the place was locked up tight and the "Open" light was off.

This does not bode well for them considering they have competition from a host of 24-hour taco shops within a mile's drive.

And on a truly bizarre note, the Quizno's Subs at 37th Street and Indian School Road (in the same strip mall as That's Italian) seems to have run into a little trouble with the County Health Department and they are now permanently closed.

I don't even want to think of what was so bad in a Quizno's that the health department had to shut it down.
