In the twenty five years since I left my rent controlled SM apartment and moved to Westwood, have sought 'real Indian food' like the place near my cousin's house in London, where I offered to adopt the chef to come back with me to LA.
Have gone many times to Jaipur for dinner but most often for their lunch buffet which features a different offering each day including salad and a couple of desserts. Always a very different vegetable is included like an addictive eggplant with garbanzos in a creamy sauce, the last time we were there.
Mme Zoe is laid up for a couple of weeks because of ortho surgery and have been ordering in - Zankou, very good; Jing Jiang Chinese, not very good and horrendously expensive - $5.95 for four teeny egg rolls and a gloppy sauce on the scallops and looked like the same sauce on the beef.
Thursday night we ordered from Jaipur - it was
stunning. Lamb korma with buttery chunks of lamb, prawn masala which was so good I was lapping the sauce (wish the prawns had been larger but there was plenty of them), rice with peas and lamb samosas plus raita which was the best I have ever eaten. Also sag paneer, also delicious. Huge portions -two persons only consumed half the food and very well wrapped and delivered. It was so tasty and top quality that I called the restaurant back to tell them.
