After many years of saving Marriott points and my two oldest going on holiday on their own I'm finally getting the chance to return to New Orleans. We will be arriving in mid April for a 6 night stay and will be lodging at the Renissance on Common Street. In tow are my wife and two youngest, ages 11 and 13.
We are NY ChowHounds and truly enjoy working ourselves around a table with a knife and fork. We have read all the tour books and are familiar with the ten or so "big name" resturaunts that most appear in print. But, my fear is that, for the most part, they cater to tourists (funny cause thats what we are). We are looking for real NO gems and finds. The kind of places where the food, feel and soul of your city would be available without the kids complaining too much about whats on the menu or excessively formal surroundings.
I'm sure such places exist. Might I cajole some of you locals to share with this stranger your foodie knolwedge and spare me reading all the menus of every resturaunt on every block I pass?
If you come to NYC I owe you one.
