My husband and I had a terrific post-matinee dinner at Film Center Cafe yesterday.
After spending a lot more than usual on dining this past month (Locanda Verde alone was around $230), I wanted to see if I could find somewhere where we could have a satisfying dinner for two for less than $100 including tax and tip.
Found it at Film Center Cafe.
We started our meal with a couple of special cocktails, which were good, albeit a little pricey at $12 each. Mine was a peachy bellini, hubby had a fruity vodka drink.
We decided to share a margherita pizza for an appetizer. It was delicious and hit all the right notes - a crispy ultra thin pita-like crust, covered with a thin layer of melted cheese, and dotted with fresh-tasting sauce and fresh basil.
For mains, we were in the mood for hearty winter fare and ordered short ribs, and lamb shank entrees. Both were very good, large pieces of meat, carefully braised making the meat tender and flavorful. If you are a fan of short ribs, this is a great place to try them! The meals came with sides of potato canneloni and couscous.
With tax and tip our meal came to $86. To make things even better, we were seated in a round leather booth and could actually sit next to each other and canoodle a little. I can't remember the last time we were given a seat like that for just two of us. Left very satisfied, and will definitely come back.
For those looking for something near the theater district, the location is great, just a couple blocks from most theaters.
