I had an apppointment at noon yesterday in downtown Anaheim so I thought it would be a good opportunity to check out the new Filling Station on Center Street Promenade.
Now, mind you, I've never been to their other restaurant and perhaps I got the wrong impression from posts I've seen here. I had the idea the original restaurant was something like the late, lamented Belisles with more reasonable portions.
I ordered a mushroom and cheddar cheese omelet with rye toast and their house potatoes. The omelette was just OK. It had plenty of tasty mushrooms but they were swimming in liquid. The cheese was a miserly couple of slices thin enough to read through. The edges of the slices poked out of the omelette and were not even softened let alone melted.
I received a single slice of rye toast.
The potatoes were that horrid orange color caused by some generic seasoning with too much paprika in it.
The orange juice was fresh and delicious.
Will I go back? Yes, if I'm in the area. I saw no signs of any spectacular baked goods but maybe they don't trot them out on Sunday mornings.
I think I'll try the Orange (original) restaurant one of these days and see what the fuss is about.
