Just returned from my short trip from NO, first time there. Sunday night we went to NOLA, had a 9:30 reservation, but still not seated until 10:00 even though there seemed to be plenty of open tables. I had the 4 course chef special, $48, which was ok, but seemed that everything had be pre-prepared and sitting in the kitchen waiting to be ordered. My boyfriends selections off the menu were better.
Our wine arrived during our appetizers.
Also the wine was not at the table and i don't think we finished the bottle.
Then our coffee came before we even finished our wine.
I asked the waiter why they felt the need to rush us out, and I got the response that they slot 1:15 minutes for 2 people/4 courses. Note we had our check in 1:10.
He said that I should have told him to slow it down if I felt rushed.
Question - Shouldn't they know better?
With drinks at the bar, dinner tax and tip it came to about $150 in less than 2 hours.
He also informed me that patron's from NY and California were the worst tippers. I told him that's b/c of their service.
I certainly have had better, more relaxed dinners in NY for 1/2 the price, and probably spent 2 hours at my table.
I was then informed that certainly NY was not the food capital of the world and that NO was superior.
What do all you experts think about this?
