So I had the opportunity to eat at the new Feelings bar last night and can report back that they're serving some delicious food. The menu is limited still (they've only been serving food for a couple of weeks) but the execution is solid. I tried the cured steelhead, cauliflower soup, beet salad, gnocchi, and drum and there were no duds in that lot. The desserts, especially a lemon pudding cake, were certainly not after thoughts.
I enjoyed the old Feelings on occasion and was disappointed to see an old institution change hands as there's a place in this world for veal Clemenseau and the like. The new owner's taking it seriously though and has surrounded himself with a competent team. Some of the campiness is gone: I always liked the bar decor (curated tackiness is difficult to pull off and they did) but nixing the Marilyn memorabilia allows that fabulous courtyard to take center stage. Unless they experience some serious growing pains I predict that within six months it'll be hard to get in without a reservation.
