This time of year I get particulerly excited about the dessert menu. The stone fruit around here is superlative, and our chefs know how to bring out the best of it.
Nothing says summer like Sketch Ice Cr5eam. In the last few weeks they've had blueberry ice cream, strawberry sorbet, blackberry ice cream, boysenberry sorbet, plum sorbet, watermelon granita (red & yellow) and apricot ice cream. All are excellent. They start with quality fruit and use a lot of fruit pulp so that the flavors really stand out. There is a nice, tart balance to the sweetness. The texture, as always, is perfect to my taste. And the colors are just beautiful. My favorite so far is the apricot, though I can't wait to try the peach, nectarine and (if I'm lucky) raspberry and royal blenheim.
I also love the wood fire oven baked fruit at Pizzaiolo. They do simple preparations of peach, apricot and nectarine, blistering hot from the oven in a pool of rich, buttery syrup. The fruit melts in your mouth. Served with whipped cream, creme freche or gelato that cools the fruit and slowly melts into a puddle (though I must say, I disapprove of their post-pastry chef decision to switch to Ciao Bella and I always sub it out).
Those are my favorites, what about other hounds? I figured with summer just beginning, this is a good thread to take advantage of our nifty, new "bumping" software.
