Favorite places to buy fresh shellfish?

Harry V. | May 15, 200205:44 PM     18

I would enjoy hearing about your favorite places to buy fresh seafood. In particular, I’d like to get some crawfish or shrimp for a party this Saturday and am looking for a good source. I don’t suppose *truly* fresh (never frozen) crawfish/shrimp are available in Chicago, so I guess I’m looking for the freshest frozen out there. I’ve heard that you might as well buy shrimp in the frozen state (i.e. not defrosted by the retailer) so that you can control the conditions in which it defrosts. The party will be fairly large so one of those five-pound blocks would be do-able.

I am also assuming that live crawfish/shrimp are not to be found in this town, but would be delighted to learn otherwise.

I’m in Andersonville; a shop near home would be a bonus, but I’ll go wherever it takes. Thanks very much.
