July is National Ice Cream Month and today is National Ice Cream Day.

I marked the occasion with a gelato sundae, $6, from Garden Creamery's truck at the J-Pop Summit. The organic milk is Straus Dairy and the base uses no eggs. The sundae had two scoops of the flavor of my choice topped with cubes of chewy-fudgy brownie, salted caramel and sweetened condensed milk. The Genmaicha (green tea + toasted rice) was too faint and lacked the characteristic bitter finish. But I really liked the Strawberry on Steroids with its pure essence of strawberry. The gelato style is very dense and creamy and worth seeking out.
