As I was waiting for my double dipped hot turkey sandwich at Castro Valley Family Hofbrau, I was thinking to myself. With all of the corporate owned restaurants IE Chili's, Dennis, and Carrows etc. The local hofbrau concept seems to be a vanished Bay Area innovation.
Remerging back in the early 80's there used to be at least 2-3 hofbraus' for every city or town, but it seems like they've all turned into the likes of Applebee, Home Town Buffets, or some other corporate own restaurant. Yes, the foods at these hofbraus were never appealing; you can even say it's down right cafeteria-style food. But, they were family owned and the food is always hearty and homey at times.
With that said, where are some of your favorite local Hofbraus' where one can still get a turkety leg with stuffings and mash potatoes.
