I've been working my way through the duck dishes at Dok Bua and tried my favorite so far tonight: Larb Ped. This is larb (toasted ground rice, onions, chili, mint, cilantro, lime juice) with chopped roasted duck. It was the best! The morsels of duck were chewy and crispy and just fatty enough, and they mixed so well with the other ingredients. I've had the chicken larb many times and I like it, but this was even better. The black sesame dumplings in hot ginger syrup was a tasty and interesting dessert. The dumplings are white on the outside and black on the inside and are just the size and shape of human eyes, which is rather disconcerting. The broth was very hot (thermally), and gingery, and not too sweet. All in all it was a great place to be on a cold and clammy night.
