Have just spent a good 45 minutes browsing through the NOLA message board, and I want to offer a sincere thank you to the locals who take so much time to respond to the queries of the hordes of hungry tourists who descend periodically upon their city. Hungry Celeste, Beau and the rest, 'Preciate you, as they used to say in Little Rock, Ark., where I once worked, and please, if you ever come to my hometown of Portland, Ore., post on our Pacific NW board and I'll return the favor.
My boyfriend and I are heading to New Orleans for the second weekend of JazzFest, and to celebrate our three-year anniversary. We're staying outside of the quarter, someplace called the Elysian Fields Inn, which bills itself as just steps from Frenchman Street and the Faubourg Marigny. I checked the board and did not see too many recommendations for this area. So I thought I'd write and ask what you all recommend: Adolfo's? Marisol? Should I make reservations at such places, or might we be able to walk on in?
Can't wait. I love New Orleans, especially at Jazzfest. And oh, that Crawfish Monica! You are all lucky to live there year-round.
One more thing -- a friend from New Orleans, who I trust totally, recommended the Palace Cafe for one of our dinners. But I was a little concerned by some of the links I saw criticizing its service. Anyone been there recently?
