Fast Breakfast/ lunch near Beverly Hills

Like-Go-Eat? | Jan 17, 2006 12:07 PM

My wife and I went to Beverly Hills yesterday morning and on the way I wanted a cup of coffee. I had an hour before a appointment around the corner so I thought we may as well have some breakfast at Doughboys.. We sat outside and ordered coffee but only got water. Almost 15 min later we noticed our table server trip over a dog that was blocking the entry and then try to calm the dog by petting him with both hands. Then she came to our table to take our order. I ordered Scrapple with dirty eggs (no pun intended) but they were “sold-out.” My wife asked how long it would take to get breakfast and the server said at least 20 min. because they were, “very busy.” Yet almost every table outside was empty. No coffee, dogs, no food, slow – We will have to try again another time. Around the corner I noticed a café inside the Cedars Sinai, Mark Goodson Building – Il Sogno Deli. Curb Parking can be as much a problem as at Doughboys but we found a spot at the curb. There is a parking garage around the corner. There are only a few tables inside but the coffee selection was impressive for this little place. Cappuccino, Latte, Mocca, Espresso, Teas, Hot Chocolate and Mexican Cocoa. I had a regular coffee (pump-pot) and my wife had Hot Chocolate. Both were good. I ordered a breakfast burrito. It was not huge but it was not small. The burrito had fluffy eggs, salsa and lots of cheese. I had bacon in it but you could also have sausage. It was served very hot and it hit the spot. My wife had the breakfast B.L.T. This was big but she ate it all. The Bacon was lean, the LT was fresh and crisp and the bread was top quality. We were finished eating 17 min after we walked in. The total for the two of us was $11. I noticed a Butter Croissant, two scrambled eggs, and ham at the next table. It looked really good and the menu has it at $3.25. The menu also states that they serve Boars Head cold cuts on the lunch sandwiches that are priced $5.50 to $6.95. For the sandwiches you can choose from a selection of breads including baquette, olive, and rosemary bread. I know what your thinking, “A medical building for lunch?” All I can say is this is about the food. The place is small but has a big window on San Vicente Blvd. and quickly serves good food and coffee at a good price without dogs. Anyway, I think this is worth a try if you need a quick bite and do not need the prestige or pretentious types who take their untrained dogs when they frequent other places in the area. Yes, I love my dog but I would not take him to your breakfast unless my disability required it.
