Farm Fresh, Salinas

Melanie Wong | Jul 5, 200405:38 PM     4

Sunday I asked my mother if she wanted me to take her to the weekly farmers market. She declined, saying she could get what she needed at a newish produce stand. Farm Fresh is located on South Main Street across the road from Villa Car Wash. It's well-kept and most of the fruit is first quality, not seconds. Selection is better or equal to the supers and prices are much lower. Most are conventionally grown with a small section of organic produce. Some samples are available for tasting.

I took a couple snapshots of things that were new to me: tomatillo milpero, dark green prickly chayote (that cost three times the smooth ones), and xoconostle. We bought nectarines, white peaches, onions, and a sharlyn melon.
