After a full day of bike riding the SB waterfront, lounging by the pool and swimming at the Harbor View Inn and lots of wine tasting, we ended up at the Los Olivos Cafe for dinner.
We arrived around 5:00 just when the dinner menu was coming into effect. We were seated by the fireplace. The dining room is a very nice size and the glass fireplace gives it a nice touch. The waitress was very friendly and we chatted about how the place was closed for days when they filmed Sideways. We saw the film on our trip. She also said that Fess Parker makes weekly appearances and how good he still looks at the age of 80. (Drives a gray Hummer!) I was a big Danile Boone fan.
We started with the salad of Roasted Roots, purple and fingerling potatoes, sweet carrots, red beets, parsnips, red onion and scallion served warm with crumbled gorgonzola, olive oil and balsamic. Very, very good. A basket of warm bread was also presented with a very good olive oil dipping sauce.
I had a glass of the Syrah, Bernat 2000. It is made by the owner of the Cafe. Very, very nice. The best I tasted on the trip. Full-bodied, robust with lots of jammy flavors that I like in a Syrah. We purchsed a bottle before we left.
My entree was the Lam Shank which paired perfectly with the Syrah. Braised with red wine, tomato, sweet onion and herbs served with cous cous, steamed brussel sprouts, carrots and natural Jus. Excellent, I highly recommend this entree for $19. A very nice size portion, but I ate the whole thing!!!! Divine......
My Dh had the Marsala chicken which he devoured and loved. Chicken sauteed in a Marsala sauce with mushrooms. He loved it!! No wine for him since we had a three hour drive ahead of us.
For dessert we had the Cafe Chocolate Scream, which is a flourless chocolate torte with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. Excellent!! I would highly recommend the Los Olivos Cafe to anyone in the area looking for some great wine and excellent food and desserts and reasonable prices. www.losolivoscafe.com to learn more. ***kim***
