Fairfax Scoop – Green Gulch pure pumpkin pleasure

rworange | Oct 16, 200606:39 PM     2

OK, I’ve finally made it to most of the ice cream joints in the Bay Area, and Fairfax Scoop wins ... for everything.

It is the only place I tried where there were no strike-outs. All the flavors were true and intense. I didn’t have to remember what was sitting in my cup. If no one told me the flavors and my eyes were closed, I’d identify each scoop easily.

The texture is perfect. The prices are fair. They will give two flavors per scoop and the scoops are generous ... two scoops ... four flavors. Two waffle machines make fresh waffle cones.

Green Gulch pumpkins are used for the ice cream and the flavor is so true, pure, fresh and pumpkin-y with the perfect ... perfect blend of spicing. It is nice with a scoop of brown sugar pecan which tastes exactly as it sounds ... wonderful..

The taste of ginger was excellent with pieces of ginger in it that were not overpowering. This is probably one of the best ginger ice creams I’ve tried.

The famed lavender honey was as good as promised, honey the primary taste with lavender in the background, as it should be. There is a better description of the vanilla honey lavender here

Fairfax Scoop... wonderful!

This was also an on-spot description when the owner discussed the honey lavender ice cream in the Chronicle article linked below:

“Martin describes the lavender as being "soft -- you don't taste it until the very end, at the back of your throat."

The only flavor that doesn’t seem to get enthusiastic raves in the links below is the chocolate, but didn’t try that.

When possible they use sustainable evaporated cane juice as a sweetener and local, organic ingredients. Strauss ice cream mix is the base for the ice creams.

So far the pumpkin ice cream is the best I’ve had. Silbermann’s is very close but that pumpkin comes from a can ... an excellent pumpkin ice cream too. Fairfax is just the more accomplished and elegant ice cream without losing any pumpkin integrity, taste or satifaction.

It really is worth the drive up Sir Francis Drake Boulevard for this ice cream.
