My husband is here from US on sabbatical. We have had some very nice meals over the last year but tonight was worth a review: Alimentum.
We have twice dined at Midsummer House where Alimentum chef served recently. Both restaurants are pricey but Alimentum gives more choices, i.e. prix fixe v. a la carte. The tasting menu (75$ approx) seemed like way too much food but 3 course from the a la carte menu at $57. Seemed a better option. Excellent wine by the glass on offer so w advice of sommelier, one can devise one's own flight of wine to accompany various courses. The eel was delicious beyond belief-- horseradish granita added a surprise frozen texture/taste that perfectly complemented the smokey eel. My husband was similarly pleased with duck breast main course. Very creative food beautifully presented but without preciousness of Midsummer where atmosphere verges on reverential. Once inside ambience is soothing, elegant, modern. A bit out of the way in a semi- commercial area but well worth the trip.
