Extraordinary Fish Salad

Alexandra Eisler | Jun 26, 200107:38 PM

Stop everything.

Turn off the computer and run, don't walk, to Bow Hun in SF Chinatown for the most incredible seafood salad on the planet. A small notice on the back wall written in English says something along the lines of "House Special Fish Salad, half order $24.00".

Fresh, fresh, fresh shad, pickled scallions, red ginger, tiny whole szechuan peppers, slivers of jalapenos, (some fiery, some not), fresh cilantro, fried peanuts, shredded, deepfried won ton wrapper, crispy fun see noodles, and julienne of daikon radish all tossed in slightly sweet rice vinegar dressing. Squeeze of lemon wedge when it arrives at the table.

Tears of joy will spring to your eyes as each bite carries you away in rapture.

Hyperbole aside, this is not just good food, this is a once-in-a-lifetime culinary experience.

Bow Hun
850 Grant Ave.
(east side of the street, just north of Clay)
