We had the good fortune of friends in Milan telling us about Gianni SCOVENNA RETUTNING TO Italy after chefing for many years around the world and buying his own place, Hotel MILANO, in Salice Terme. It is about 30-40 minutes southwest of Milan in a charming thermal bath resort town near Voghera( which itself is a neat town).
Our meals for two days were a culinary delight of fine lighter Italian cooking ( yet the veal milanese was larger than the large plate it was served on ) at a very reasonable cost, especially compared to Milan or Florence. A neighbor table was estatic about the best ravioli they ever had in their life.
The wine list was remarkable and at very reasonable price with some emphasis on regional Northen Italian specialties.
Service was superb and friendly and attentive. In middle of large garden with magnificant trees.
Gianni Scovenna was a delight.
