Safari Cuisine on Chapel Hill Street is owned by a Kenyan couple and serves excellent Kenyan food. I lived in Kenya and Tanzania for seven years and am a linguistics and Swahili professor at Hofstra Univ. on Long Island in the NYC area. On a recent trip to NC I was amazed to find this place, one of only three authentic (or otherwise) East African (i.e., Kenyan, Tanzanian or Ugandan) restaurants on the East Coast that I have ever been able to discover. There is one in White River Junction VT, and one in Washington DC. None in NYC. Safari Cuisine serves a variety of authentic and delicious dishes like superb meat samosas, originally Indian but the "national snack" of Kenya. Everything we had there, including a great vegetarian plate, was excellent. Place was clean, service friendly and helpful, and I noticed that was true for the patrons that didn't speak Swahili, too! I brought back $50 worth of samosas to NY with me to share with family and friends. Great place.
