Went to a wonderful little Indian restaurant last night. Called Biryani House (I think). It's in the liittle alley called Roy's Square at Yonge & Bloor.
This little alley has several very good and very inexpensive restaurants.
I first ate at Biryani house several years ago when they first opened. It was only about 4 feet wide but the food was excellent. It was reviewed, favorably, a few years ago. We went again and it has expanded to 3X original size (so just tiny and no longer microscopic) and they have about 10 tables. Dinner for 2 without wine is a little less than $20.
The cooks are very professional, the food is beautifully seasoned and some of it is very rich. Everything was excellent.
This food is very different from the Indian food in Little India (near where I live). It is not too hot, most not hot at all. The service is excellent and the atmosphere - made by the people who work there - very comfortable with excellent service and no stiff formality. But they have style.
The only thing that was not amazing were the breads. They were good - we had bread from the tandoor with garlic and mustard seeds.
From the moment you walk in the perfume of the food will float you to heaven.
