excellent brunch in Newton, Kansas

Had a really first-rate brunch this morning in Newton, KS at The Spartan, on the main street right downtown.

A funky spot, full of old formica-and-vinyl dinette sets for seating, the service was good and so was the food.

I had a really tasty apple sausage and fennel omelette, withe fennel nice and firm. Seved with a cup of gazpacho. Elise had sweet potato pancakes (made latke style with grated potatos) topped with avocado and poached egg. Just a hint of heat. VERY tasty.

Fine food in a small heartland town. I'll go back next time I'm in Kansas and try dinner--that menu looks mouthwatering. btw, everything on the brunch menu was $8 or under. Live music most evenings.
