Evanston Creamery

zim | Jun 10, 200310:02 AM

A while back the ice cream store on the corner of Dempster and Chicago in Evanston went from Baskin Robbins to independent Evanston Creamery, later signs for homemade ice cream started turning up in the window.

I finally got a chance to check it out last night and it was a pleasant surprise. Most flavors they get from Chocolate Shoppe Ice creams from Madison, WI (info at the link) 14% butterfat and pretty tasty. They also make a few flavors in house, which they advertise on the chalkboards as 18% butterfat and made in "single-batch italian freezers" I'm not sure what that means but maybe somenbody else does, it does sound good.

Anyway, I tried the in house ultrachocolate. usually I'm not a big fan of store bought choclate ice cream as their is litle discernible darkness to the flavor, this was really pretty nice, not too sweet, good chocolate flavor and with good texture as well
