Ettiquette question: re-booking canceled rez through discount site?

sgordon | Sep 25, 201106:30 AM

I understand that discount sites (groupon, savored, etc) are a double-edged sword for most restaurants, and I generally don't use them. But recently I made a reservation at a rather expensive place, only to find out a couple days later they were offering a 30% off deal via Savored. I feel a bit weird canceling my original rez only to re-book it. I wouldn't even consider it, were it a small amount, but 30% off our 4-top at this place... Well, it's pretty significant. Like, that'd be my cable AND electric bills. We're not poor, but we ain't rich, either, so this is our monthly splurge. I guess I'm worried about our nice night out being potentially marred by the staff thinking we're cheapskates when we walk in the door. Not that most of that discount wouldn't find its way into the tip, probably, but it's not like they'd know that.

Anyone been in this situation before?
