tried Miette's newest creation the other day. they must have hired some professional bakers (as the owners never baked outside of a home kitchen before), because this cake was Perfect!
Few bakers mess about with grapefruits. They're finicky, slightly bitter, and many cringe at the thought of eating them without a heavy dose of honey or sugar poured over a half.
this cake makes grapefruit lovers like me smile ear to ear happy.
and few things at Miette are consistantly well made. cakes can run dry, whipped cream can taste like butter, cupcakes can literally break the bank, scones can taste like dusty nothing.
but if you have a not-so-secret-love-affair with citrus as I do, (coined by an ex-girlfriend), you may want to save your shekels to try this cake.
layers: daquoise, whipped cream, grapefruit curd, genoise.
comes in pretty wrapping too.
citrus lovers are often disappointed with desserts claiming lemon or lime as a title. too sweet, cloying; citrus flavours muffled and strangled by sugar and other stuff. i like a tart lemon curd, a feisty lime sorbet, a silken grapefruit cake......
