During the summer, we would often conclude a day at Crane Beach with lobsters and fried clams at Woodman's. We always thoroughly enjoyed it, but based on previous posts here I thought perhaps we had been deluded by the salt air and should try, for example, Essex Seafood instead. We did so yesterday and were disappointed.
Fried clams were good but not remarkably better than what I remember of Woodman's, but the lobsters were terribly disappointing. Lukewarm when served to us and clearly overcooked, with tough tail meat and mushy claw meat. Accompanying steamers were also nothing special.
So, perhaps there is a reason for the long lines at Woodman's, other than "tourist" renown. We may still give the Clam Box and Farnham's a try, but were chagrined by our first venture from the tried and true.
