Had the tasting menu plus crudo tasting (+$25) at Esca. Here's review:
Wine selection: Great (given its focus)
Wine pairing: Excellent
Food: Mediocre at best. I mean, nothing was overcooked or came out cold, and the presentation was great, but the food simply wasn't tasty. Maybe it's just an off night but it really was sub-par. I'm not sure whether it's the cooking or simply the recipe. Any thoughts?
I'm not from southern Italy, so I don't know whether the food tasted like that because it's authentic. But even if that is so, I'm forced to conclude that authenticity isn't very tasty here.
