England Revisited -- Lincoln in The Spring

Dave | May 20, 2003 02:11 PM

Oh,to be in Lincoln (2 & 1/2 hours north of London by car) now that Spring is here -- preferably when the sun is shining. I have revisited favorite haunts and reconfirm positive reports. Sign of the Fish on Sincil St. in The Market still turns out mouthwatering Fish & Chips, sausage & chips and assorted other goodies (mushy peas, etc) for the right price. Curtis Bakery & Patisserie continues to bake delicious turnovers and tarts and, my favirite guilty treat , Steak & Kidney Pie (with golden crust and ) still warm from the oven for 90p. The Ice Cream Shop on Bailgate at the top of Steep Hill (one block from Lincoln Cathedral) still scoops home -made Orange Brandy Ice Cream (and other flavors, I suppose) and The Pyewipe Inn, a countrey pub 15 minutes (by car) from Lincoln City Center, provides a fine pub lunch in a restful setting overlooking the canal. On to London. I'll report. --DVR
