Last evening I was going to play Scrabble with a friend and did not have much time and had not eaten since breakfast.
I decided to give Gregoires one more try (last time disappointed with the bland cup of honey serving as sauce for the battered chicken strips and the salad - boring and semi-wilted. Of course, living 10 miles away and having to drive home before eating, the test was not a fair one.
Yesterday, I ordered soup of the day - pinto bean and dessert - rice pudding with rhubarb sauce.
Both were delicious, even given that they were eaten in my car, parked under a tree on Rose Street.
The soup was fabulous. It was smoky and rich (a smooth puree of beans, spices and stock - some tomatoes, too, I think). It came with a tiny container of croutons. I wished I'd gotten 2 orders!
The pudding was quite nice, with a flavor I could not pinpoint - not vanilla.. and the rhubarb sauce was tartly perfect on top.
I'm glad I gave Gregoire's another try.
