For those interested, one of my favorite restaurants from last year's Renaissance has just undergone a chef change. Ann Conness, the superb chef (who was sous chef at Alex) at Em Bistro finished her last night there last night. Her sous chef, Jason, remains and rumor has it they may go more in a traditional Italian direction.
Partly, because they were the unexpected underdog but mainly because of Ann's cooking, I really looked forward to dining there. Comfortable chairs and friendly sevice, I still remember Ann's wonderful short ribs with polenta and broccolini or her saddle of lamb with haricot vert. With Natasha MacAller's wonderful desserts (best strawberry shortcake in town), she was delivering real American bistro cooking. She's left to work on her own place and Em Bistro gets ready to add a jazz element. We look forward to the next chapter.
