After reading some good recs on the board, decided to try Elf Cafe in Echo Park. I'm not a vegetarian, and I loved this spot, especially the special I had--a potato version of kibbe (Middle Eastern meatloaf)--all the flavors/spices were right on, and the creamy potatos worked well. Other nice perks: cucumber flavored water and a gratis ramekin of garlic-potato puree and some crusty bread slices.
I know some folks had commented about the pretentiousness/hipsterness, but I didn't find that to be the case. Everyone was super friendly and low key, and I was dressed in my preppiest Ann Taylor suit jacket straight from the office. It's certainly tiny, and very warm--dress in layers!
