Tried El Viejo Yayo last night since it is next to my apartment and it was late (had been put off by the whole mostly empty banquet hall vibe). The Pernil (roast pork) was amazing. Great porky flavor and perfectly moist with little bits of cracklins on top. I'm guessing excess lard must be involved somehow to get it that moist. Rice and beans were ordinary but I'm excited about going back for the mofongo (mashed fried green plantains with roast pork) and ropa vieja. Anyone else tried this place?
