El Toro 'X' 10th Anniversary ale

Pius Avocado III | Mar 22, 2004 09:54 AM

El Toro Brewing in Morgan Hill celebrated their 10th anniversary (March 21) by brewing up a huge ale they dubbed 'X.' It is a nice, ruddy deep-copper in color, with an ample, somewhat creamy head, and weighs in at 10.5% ABV. Complex maltiness (somewhat sweet up front, drier and roasty in the lengthy finish) provides sturdy backbone for bittering provided by 10 varieties of hop. If I had to classify it, I'd say it is closest to those double IPAs which approach barleywine-ness in terms of ABV and malt, though it is very different from their usual double IPA offering (Deuce).

I understand 4 kegs of this fine elixir were brewed. One is on tap now at Barclay's on the square, one is at the Barclay's on College, a third is said to be at the Toronado and I haven't heard about the 4th.

Quaff while you may!
