El nandu report

Really wanted to like this place after hearing raves from several semi-chowish friends but it was half-and-half. The menu has nine versions of empanadas (so-far-so-good) We tried the Tucumana, a traditional empanada with steak, scallions, olives eggs et al.; the chicken with red peppers, scallions; the Camarones with shrimp, parmesan, other cheese and spices. The Tucumana was very good. The Camarones had no seafood flavor whatsoever, it was all gooey white cheese, which wasn't bad, but not great. The pollo was uninspired but a faithful rendition nonetheless.

I have to say that the chimichurri sauce was really good. I'd like this one the table at every meal.

SO had the Milanesa con Queso. Friend had the Churrasco, I had the same but with Cebollas. The steaks were very fatty, I'm talkin' needing to cut fat off, and discovering a third of your meal was inedible. But both the fried potatoes and rice were o.k.

Go back? Yeah, maybe. But nothing to write home about. Wish it was what I imagined it to be.
