This was a pleasant experiment, a small place near nothing where you can eat yourself right into next week for not very much money. Only we didn’t since we were attempting to lunch lightly.

I had chilaquiles verdes with scrambled egg and couldn’t resist adding in a soft taco stuffed with nopales salad for $2. Delicious. My companion had soft tacos stuffed with assorted meats, chorizo among them. The tacos were doubled and we used the second taco in each case to enjoy some of the brick-red chile sauce brought on the side, delicious heat. It made for a better taco-to-filling ratio, too, to peel away the second taco.

Wish I had ordered the caldo de camaron. Wish I could go there when they offer the pozole. Maybe I'll be allowed to go back . . .

The place is attractive and cheerful, the service benevolent. And there is beer.
