Tonight is the night that my wife and I had reservations for El Bulli in Roses, Spain considered by many to be the best restaurant in the world. Certainly the most difficult restaurant in the world to receive a reservation for. (On January 15th at 10:00AM they accept reservations for seven months of operation. That afternoon they were booked up for the entire year!)
Three weeks ago I cancelled our reservation respecting my wife's concern about travelling overseas at a time of war. I should note here that I have been crying since but respected her feelings.
Tonight we are going out to dinner in the D. C. area. There were a lot of considerations but since El Bulli is approximately 25 to 30 "courses" including foam, test tubes, lollipops and Lord knows what else it seemed that what might be most sensible would be an outstanding restaurant that does not attempt to emulate it in any way. Rather that has its own style and its own unique excellence.
This then will be our first meals at 2941.
